It is imperative that children be active participants in their education. Only
when a classroom comes together as a community and invests time and effort into their curriculum can it be effective, engaging,
and relevant to the learners. It is important to gain an understanding of the learning styles present in my class and use
that knowledge to tailor the assessment used to determine if a skill or concept has been mastered. Every child is a unique and important person who evaluates and incorporates knowledge differently. My classroom will be varied and flexible enough to recognize each child as an individual
and assess them as a distinct learner.
It is important for all people involved to recognize and contribute to upholding the classroom standards. Those involved in education should have and project a positive attitude.
They should encourage children to make appropriate choices in a warm and supportive climate. Educators should share clearly defined school and classroom rules that are posted and made visually and
orally available to the students. These rules should be consistently carried
out throughout the school and should encourage self-management by students in a variety of situations. My classroom is a place
where children feel safe—safe to succeed and safe enough to fail (in order to learn from their mistakes). Teaching comes
though creating personal relationships and connections with students and tailoring the environment and learning to fit the
class. A teacher is a guide who can open the doors of learning for students. The goal of education must be to teach children not only how to be successful learners,
but successful people. My classroom’s goal is to help a child on his/her
journey to becoming a responsible, whole, and successful member of society.
